OPG Kalcina is a family farm specialising in producing extra virgin olive oil, located in a small town near Grožnjan, with 1500 olive trees. Surrounded by hilly relief, the olive grove enjoys an ideal microclimate that enables the flow of salty air from the sea and the retention of that air due to the hills behind the olive grove. In this way, everything is best preserved in the olive grove; thus, the olives have a high-quality aroma and polyphenols. Great importance is played by the Mediterranean climate, especially the microclimate, which enables the flow of salty air from the sea—the cultivation of varieties that are typical for Istria. Ever since the grandfather laid the foundation stone, the family has diligently and patiently developed the olive oil production business and set it to the current enviable level.

Frantoio olive is a variety that has been cultivated in Istria since 1940. It is a highly valued variety because of the exceptional and high-quality oil it produces. If the harvest is carried out when the fruits are wine-reddish in color – it gives an oil with a pronounced fruity aroma, pleasant bitterness and spiciness. The fruits of this variety can also be used for canning. It is a very powerful oil and, accordingly, it is an excellent addition to foods that also have an intense taste, such as steak, truffles, game, etc.
