It sounds medieval perhaps, however “Sansigot” or “Sušćan crni” is the name of the indigenous variety. It’s a rare and old Croatian grape variety originally from the island of Susak (Sansego), now grown in Vrbnik. This wine is produced from grapes from the old vineyard on the western slopes as well as from the new one, situated on “Krasina”, the land obtained by melioration of karst. Sansigot is quite unique wine, historically used by field workers as a thirst quencher, because of its ability to chill you even if temperature rises above for consumption ideal 16 degrees Celsius.
