Vintage 2022. Medea Winery was founded in 1956 by merging farmers cooperatives that existed in the village of Rovinj, Pula and Barban. Today they own 48 acres of vineyards. Despite the size of the winery, it produces only 30,000 bottles of high-quality wine a year, while the rest still ends up as table wine. However, the plan to switch exclusively to quality has already begun and we can’t wait to drink the fruits of their labor. Just walk through one of the series of our vineyards that cover a total of 60 hectares and soak up the smell of grapes, and in it the Istrian spirit of culture, tradition and heritage.

The grapes were hand-harvested in mid-September and, following gentle destemming and crushing, underwent fermentation with maceration for 15 days. After fermentation and racking of the young wine, malolactic fermentation took place, followed by ageing in 225-litre oak barrels for 12 months. After maturation and careful élevage in oak, the wines were blended with a final barrel selection. Punta Greca was then transferred to stainless steel tanks, where it spent a further 12 months. Punta 2022, after blending, was moved to concrete tanks and large oak barrels for an additional year of ageing. Following bottling, Punta Greca 2022 aged in bottle for six months before being packed in wooden cases and released to the market, while Punta remained in bottle for 12 months before its first market release. The wine is of a deep ruby color and quite thick. Very complex and pronounced aromas of excellent quality; notes of Griotte pralines (chocolate and cherries in liqueur), blueberry, blackberry, and plum jam. Spicy notes of black pepper, cloves; notes of roasted cocoa and herbal notes of laurel and anise. It is very warm and soft on the palate. A high degree of freshness and numerous ripe tannins maintain an excellent balance of wine flavors. The bitter aromas of cocoa beans and coffee reappear in teh aftertaste. Serve in a Bordeaux glass with grilled bistecca alla fiorentina and a demi-glace sauce with vegetables or Deer fillet in a game and forest fruit sauce and porcini mushrooms.
