Vintage 2023. Medea Winery was founded in 1956 by merging farmers cooperatives that existed in the village of Rovinj, Pula and Barban. Today they own 48 acres of vineyards. Despite the size of the winery, it produces only 30,000 bottles of high-quality wine a year, while the rest still ends up as table wine. However, the plan to switch exclusively to quality has already begun and we can’t wait to drink the fruits of their labor. Just walk through one of the series of our vineyards that cover a total of 60 hectares and soak up the smell of grapes, and in it the Istrian spirit of culture, tradition and heritage.

Hand harvesting into crates at the end of September. Fermentation runs parallel with a seven-day maceration in a stainless steel vinificator in controlled conditions at 20-22°c with malolactic fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is aged with lees (sur lie method) for four months in a stainless steel tank. After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for a month before release. Dark red in color with purple edges. Very fruity, cheerful and fresh red wine, that, with its aromas of raspberries, blueberries and currants and characteristic hints of pepper, represents a traditional genuinely Istrian wine. A typical freshness of Teran and a pleasant nuance of astringency mingled with extractability give it the characteristics of a pleasantly blended wine from the Istrian south.
